It has been said, that to improperly appreciate and support the role of the mobilizer is to seriously hinder the functions of the goer, sender, and welcomer." Undoubtedly, it will have some of the same characteristics as those which have sprung up in the past. At the same time, these characteristics will take on modern twists and the movement will include other facets too. One of the chief trends we are seeing emerge in international ministry circles is that of networks and collaborations. WE ARE WORLD CHRISTIANS by Gordon Aeschliman First published over 25 years ago, this declaration of commitment to the global purposes of God is a powerful way to measure your own commitment and to help you press onward towards discovering and walking out your specific part in completing the great commission. THE RADICAL PROJECT: A REVOLUTIONARY LATIN AMERICAN MODEL FOR MISSION MOBILIZATION Missão Horizontes began in 1990, after David Botelho, a Brazilian pastor and former missionary to Bolivia, connected with World Horizons, a Welsh based international mission organization. As a result of that contact Botelho developed his vision to mobilize Latin Americans from a distinctively Latin organization. And so Missão Horizontes Horizontes was created under the broad umbrella of World Horizons. The Radical Project has become one of the fruits of this vision. WE ARE THE LUKEWARM GENERATION by Conrad Tolosa This generation of young Christians is lukewarm. Ask a hundred teens or college-aged kids if they can recite a measly ten Bible verses you'd be lucky to get only a couple. Ask them if they do their devotions you'd be lucky to get a few who do it on a daily basis for more than five minutes. Ask them if they know their calling you'd get whole lot of blank stares. (Read more) FROM TRIPS TO CAREERS, by Ryan Shaw Young adults throughout history have made a tremendous impact on the missionary movement. Yet today only 8% of speakers ever talk to young aduiences about long-term ministry. Short-term participants are up, but long-term participants are down. This must change. THE FUEL AND THE FLAME by Steve Shadrach "... timeless truths on the fundamentals of (campus) ministry - building relationships, evangelism, establishing new believers, equipping them to disciple and train others, and then how to launch them into the world as laymen or full time laborers!" (Amazon.com review) top WEBSITES EVERY ETHNE Our vision is to see college students recruited, trained and connected to strategic involvement in reaching every ethnic people group with the good news of Jesus Christ in our lifetime. We do this by coming alongside existing church and para-church collegiate ministries. With their blessing and collaboration, we seek to provide students in their ministries with resources, community and coaching focused on helping them move toward strategic involvement in reaching every ethnic people group. RIGHTNOW.ORG The Rightnow Campaign encourages and guides young adults towards adventurous, life-changing opportunities to make a difference in the world. Right Now is not a mission sending agency, but rather a catalyst in connecting the passionate individuals of this generation to the spiritual needs of the world. TAKE MY LIFE - Arizona Especially check out the description of who is networking together on Take My Life's About page. THETRAVELINGTEAM.ORG The Traveling Team’s purpose is to glorify God by educating and equipping college students to become World Christians who fulfill their responsibility in World Evangelization. Their web site is excellently set up to take anyone, student or non-student, through a host of topics and articles on what every World Christian should know. STUDENT MOBILIZATION Student Mobilization (Stu Mo) targets key campuses in the South Central United States to place enthusiastic, biblically solid staff in order to engage collegians at a spiritual level. Stu Mo uses events such as the annual Kaleo Summer Project and the Christmas Conference to love and challenge students to become laborers for Christ. Stu Mo staff seek to build relationships with, pray for and ministry to key students on campus with the purpose of helping these students develop their own relationship with Christ and personal ministry to other students. STUDENT VOLUNTEER MOVEMENT 2 (SVM2) SVM2 is a relatively new mission mobilization ministry for the student world. URBANA.ORG Intervarsity Christian Fellowship has really ramped up their web site! Their own humble description of their site is, “a place to learn about global mission and God's will, and to be challenged by the world's needs.” top STREAMING VIDEOS URBANA.ORG Urbana's 2006 triennial conference provides some great streaming video footage. Link your youth and young adults to these on your church web site. Or, space out the blessing by periodically including a link or two in your youth/young adult e-newsletters. top CONFERENCES & CLASSES The following ministries are nationally and/or regionally focused. Some are entirely student mobilization oriented, while others, though not specifically focused on students, offer helpful input for students searching for God's leading in mission. PERSPECTIVES ON THE WORLD CHRISTIAN MOVEMENT The USCWM's Perspectives On the World Christian Movement course, is a grad/undergrad-level credit-bearing course held in over 180 cities throughout the US and Canada every year. Look here for further information on class dates and locations as well as how to take Perspectives online. THE TRAVELING TEAM PRESENTATIONS The Traveling Team offers a presentation on God's heart for the world that will ignite vision and passion in the hearts of your students. The presentation, which lasts around 40-45 minutes, is comprised of a Biblical Basis of missions and walks the students through God's heart for all peoples from Genesis to Revelation. PASSION CONFERENCES Passion Conferences are under the ministry umbrella of CHOICE Resources in Roswell, Georgia. Springing out of ten years of student ministry on the local campus, the vision of CHOICE Resources is to develop tools and conferences "leading others to renewed passion for God and fresh encounters of worship." Giving leadership to CHOICE since its inception is Louie Giglio. Louie, who has fifteen years experience in working with college and university students, travels nationally, speaking to audiences of all ages. His passion is to challenge others to know God intimately, worship Him wholeheartedly, and follow Him radically. URBANA CONFERENCES Held every three years (next conference is December 2009) Urbana is an opportunity to talk to real-life missionaries. At Urbana, there will be a Missions Exhibit, where you can get information from over 250 mission agencies, graduate schools and seminaries. You can explore short and longer-term overseas mission opportunities or just learn about education programs in missions. You will be able to attend various workshops, worship with a huge multi-ethnic congregation, listen to God's word through his servants, pray with fellow brothers and sisters, and just broaden your perspective on how you can be used by the Lord-at your campus or at your work place. Don't miss this opportunity! MISSIONS FESTS Currently Missions Fest conferences are being held in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the U.S. These are similar to ACMC conferences, designed especially for training local churches in current missions training and thinking, but are very relevant to students seeking to discover their role in world evangelization. ACMC CONFERENCES Though ACMC is focused on the local church our regional and national conferences are excellent places for students to get exposed to today's key thinkers and leaders in missions. top [ back to Mission Resource directory] |
